Autumn schedule: planting, hygiene, winter preparation

Autumn determines how spring will start: this is the best time for planting bare-root roses, topping up mulch, stopping nitrogen and tidying up plant hygiene. How long can I plant in autumn?
It is safe until frosts set in, as long as the soil is not frozen; for bare-root roses, autumn planting is preferable.
Should we still feed in autumn?
