NOAMEL – pink groundcover rose – Flower Carpet® Appleblossom

Imagine pale apple-blossom blooms spilling over gravel and pots, bringing a sense of seaside refreshment to small spaces without demanding constant attention. This Flower Carpet® groundcover rose forms a low, dense cover of glossy foliage and soft pink clusters that repeat reliably from early summer into autumn, even in exposed, breezy gardens where good anchoring and drainage matter. Its excellent disease resistance and naturally self-cleaning flowers mean there is very little pruning or deadheading to worry about, so you can enjoy your veranda or shingle bed with more time for tea and less for tasks. In a generously sized container of at least 40–50 litres it offers long-season colour on coastal balconies, while in the ground it spreads steadily, knitting into a weed-suppressing carpet. Planted as an own-root shrub, it builds a lasting framework – first strengthening its roots, then pushing more shoots, before reaching full ornamental effect over the following seasons.

Usage options

Target areaReasoning
Coastal shingle or gravel bed The spreading habit and dense foliage create a low, wind-tolerant cushion that copes well with breezy, exposed sites where secure anchoring and sensible drainage are essential; ideal for relaxed seaside schemes for the busy coastal gardener audience
Groundcover in family front garden Forms a broad, flowered mat that suppresses many weeds and needs only light annual tidying, making the front of the house presentable without frequent maintenance for time-pressed homeowners buyers
Large container or veranda tub (40–50 L+) Performs reliably in a spacious pot, giving long-season colour on steps, terraces and verandas when watered and fed, with minimal pruning, suiting small-space gardeners with limited planting areas customers
Low, informal hedge or edging Regular repeat flowering and a compact, spreading framework make it suitable for soft edging along paths or driveways, providing structure and gentle colour without complex clipping for informal-hedge users gardeners
Slopes and tricky banks The wide spread and dense root system help knit into sloping ground, reducing bare patches and erosion while demanding very little ongoing work, helpful where access is difficult for householders with banks families
Urban and coastal courtyard planting Excellent tolerance of urban conditions and resilient foliage allow it to thrive beside parking areas and paved courts, offering a calm, pale-pink accent that stays tidy with basic care for courtyard-focused city owners
Low-maintenance mixed bed with perennials Its semi-double clusters and pastel tones combine easily with grasses and coastal perennials, repeating through the season while remaining largely self-cleaning, simplifying border care for style-conscious planting enthusiasts
Long-term family garden investment As an own-root rose it regenerates well from the base, stays true to type and builds up year on year, offering stable ornamental value without frequent replacement for long-view home garden planners

Styling ideas

  • Shingle-terrace drift – Plant in a loose ribbon through coastal shingle with sea kale and blue Festuca to echo Cornish beaches – suited to veranda owners wanting a breezy seaside feel.
  • Pastel-partner bed – Combine with Verbena hastata ‘White Spires’ and soft lavender for a hazy, low-effort pastel display – ideal for beginners aiming for gentle colour with minimal upkeep.
  • Urban-edge ribbon – Line a driveway or parking bay, underplanting with Calamintha nepeta ‘Blue Cloud Strain’ to soften hard surfaces – good for busy households needing neat, forgiving planting.
  • Bank-stabiliser sweep – Use in broad bands on a gentle slope with Liatris spicata ‘Kobold’ punctuating the carpet – helpful where mowing is awkward but year-round cover is desired.
  • Veranda-showcase pot – One plant in a 50-litre tub with trailing thyme around the rim creates a low, flower-rich centrepiece – perfect for compact patios seeking easy, long-flowering impact.

Technical cultivar profile
ParameterData
Name and registration Groundcover shrub rose from the Flower Carpet collection, registered as NOAmel, marketed as Noamel Flower Carpet and Appleblossom Flower Carpet in several regions.
Origin and breeding German-bred sport of ‘Flower Carpet Pink’ by Werner Noack, registered 1997, introduced after 1997 via Anthony Tesselaar International for robust, easy-care landscape use.
Growth and structural characteristics Low, spreading shrub 60–100 cm high and 120–200 cm wide, with dense, glossy medium-deep green foliage and good self-cleaning, forming a broad, weed-suppressing carpet.
Flower morphology Semi-double, cup-shaped clusters with 13–25 petals, small-flowered but freely produced in trusses, remontant with abundant second flushes over the main growing season.
Colour data and phenology Pastel pink buds open to creamy white centres with powder-pink edges, fading to near-white with a pale flush; ARS LP, RHS 65C and 155D, giving a soft, apple-blossom effect.
Fragrance and aroma Very faint, discreet scent that is barely perceptible in normal garden use, the display relying on colour, floriferousness and foliage rather than fragrance impact.
Hip characteristics Rose hips form only occasionally, small spherical fruits about 6–10 mm across, generally green flushed reddish, offering limited ornamental interest and not usually a design feature.
Resistance and winter hardiness Excellent resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust, with good heat tolerance and hardiness to approximately −21 to −18 °C, suitable for most UK family garden conditions.
Horticultural recommendations Best in sunny positions with reasonably drained soil, including heavier clays improved for drainage; spacing from 90 to 165 cm depending on groundcover, edging or specimen use.

NOAMEL – pink groundcover rose – offers long-season cover, excellent disease resistance and reliable spreading growth on a durable own-root frame; a thoughtful choice if you favour calm colour with little ongoing work.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”; it illustrates the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root cultivation in a tangible way: how the plant is built up, what the root system is like and how the shoot system regenerates. The recordings were therefore made at different times and with plants at various stages of development, so mixed foliage levels and differing stages of growth may appear in the videos. They are not a ‘sample’ of the batch dispatched, but a visual explanation of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical for the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown in the upper part of the product page.
