RUGELDA ® – yellow park rose - Kordes

Imagine sitting with afternoon tea on a sheltered Cornish veranda while Rugelda shrugs off brisk coastal breezes and steady showers, creating a calm, sunlit screen of glossy foliage and softly scented blooms. This tall, upright shrub forms a reliable windbreak, its dense, dark green leaves anchoring the planting visually as well as physically. The bright yellow flowers with warm red edging appear in generous flushes from early summer well into autumn, with minimal pruning and feeding needed for a tidy, flower-rich display. In a large pot of at least 40–50 litres, or in a narrow shingle bed, it brings long-lived, own-root stability and the ability to regenerate if cut back hard. Over the first years it settles steadily – first establishing roots, then building strong shoots, and by the third season reaching its full ornamental impact in a small family garden.

Usage options

Target areaReasoning
Coastal veranda screen in large containers A tall, upright habit and dense foliage help create a living privacy screen on exposed verandas when planted in 40–50 litre tubs, coping well where coastal breezes and frequent rain would challenge more delicate shrubs, ideal for beginners.
Low-maintenance family hedge This variety forms a robust, freely flowering hedge that needs only light annual trimming, with self-cleaning blooms reducing deadheading so you can enjoy colour without complex pruning in everyday family spaces, perfect for busy-owners.
Specimen rose in a small lawn or front garden Its strong, upright framework and vivid yellow-and-red flowers create a clear focal point from the street or kitchen window, offering season-long interest in a single shrub without the need for elaborate bed design, appealing to homeowners.
Mixed coastal-style shrub border Good disease resistance and sturdy growth make it a reliable backbone for borders alongside sea kale, Festuca or lavender, where it endures damp winds and shifting weather while keeping structure neat for relaxed coastal-lovers.
Wildlife-friendly family corner Semi-double flowers offer accessible pollen for visiting insects, followed by small orange-red hips for autumn interest, bringing a softer, natural feel that fits well with informal play lawns and wildlife patches valued by families.
Urban courtyard with limited soil The own-root form builds strength over time, steadily improving flowering even where soil depth is modest, giving a long-lived shrub that copes with intermittent watering and irregular care, reassuring for city-gardeners.
Clay soil bed with improved drainage Once established, its strong root system secures the plant firmly so it rides out wet winters and breezy conditions in heavy soils where drainage has been modestly improved, offering a resilient anchor for hobby-gardeners.
Season-long colour near seating areas With abundant first and second flushes of bloom and a medium fragrance, this rose delivers reliable, repeat colour and scent around patios or garden benches, complementing weekend teatimes and evening chats for relaxed garden-users.

Styling ideas

  • Harbour-Veranda Screen – line 40–50 litre tubs along a balcony rail, combining this rose with blue Festuca for a salty, harbour feel – ideal for coastal veranda owners.
  • Shingle-Hedge Ribbon – plant in a gentle curve through shingle with sea kale and low grasses to form a soft, wind-tolerant boundary – suited to informal family gardens.
  • Sunny-Tea Corner – place one shrub by a bistro set, underplanted with lavender for extra scent, for a long-season, low-effort retreat – perfect for time-poor homeowners.
  • Cottage-Coastal Mix – weave among Campanula and hemp-agrimony to blend classic shrub structure with loose, wildlife-friendly planting – appealing to relaxed cottage-style gardeners.
  • Urban-Focus Pot – grow a single plant in a generous container framed by slate chippings, using its height as a focal accent in a compact courtyard – great for small-space city gardeners.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”; it illustrates the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root cultivation in a tangible way: how the plant is built up, what the root system is like and how the shoot system regenerates. The recordings were therefore made at different times and with plants at various stages of development, so mixed foliage levels and differing stages of growth may appear in the videos. They are not a ‘sample’ of the batch dispatched, but a visual explanation of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical for the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown in the upper part of the product page.
